Collage

Creating collages using the images from the built-in library.

Note: please study the first example before moving on to the second one.

Pic. 31 – The result.

  1. Create a new project (Project->New) and save it, for instance, under the name “Collage.ime”.

  2. Insert the library image – Pic.32.

Pic. 32 – The first original image.

       3. Add the second original image (Sveta.png) from the “Collage” example according to the par.2 and Crop. Drag up in the history tree.

Pic. 33 – Cropping the second original image.

       4. Add the third original image (Group.png) from the “Collage” example according to the par.2 and Crop the first teacher. In the history tree drag to the second position.   Re-name according to the teacher’s name – “Natalia Mixalovna”.

Pic. 34 – Cropping the third original image.

        5. Select the first original image (third in the tree) and apply the filter “Background Collage Item”. Use the first derivative from the second original (Crop) as the masking image (“Sveta.png”).

Notes:

- the aspects of the “Collage” group filter application are described in the “Special aspects of some filters application”;

- the “Background Collage Item” filter kind of puts the masking image under the edited one.

Thus, if there are no transparent areas of the image being edited in the masking image area (i.e., with an alpha channel other than 1), the resulting image will not be different from the edited image.

This filter clearly shows that the term “masking images" is not always correct. In this case, it does not “mask” anything. But, following the generally accepted terminology, all images for creating filters (as input parameters) will be referred to as “masking”.

            6. Repeat par.5. Using the first derivative (Crop) of the third original image (“Natalia Mixalovna”) as the masking image.

Pic. 36 – Inserting the second image in the collage.

         7. Clone the original image “Natalia Mixalovna”. We get the fourth original image. We “Crop the second teacher” and re-name as “Irina Victorovna”. Apply the “Background Collage Item” filter to the first original image similar to the par.5. The masking image is the first derivative (“Crop”) of the fourth original (“Irina Victorovna”).

8. Repeat similar to par. 7 for friends.

Pic. 38 – Collage is almost ready.

        9. We need the title. Let’s prepare the background. We use the “Rectangle” filter from the “Shape” group. Filters from this group might contain up to 30 settings (input parameters). They are separated into three groups for user’s convenience.  (3 tabs in the left part of the filter settings window): “Shape”, “Border”, “Fill”. Pic. 39 is the result of filter application with the “Shape” tab.

Tab “Border” - Pic. 40. We don’t need “Border” in this example, clear all input parameters.

Pic. 40 – Tab “Border” of the “Rectangle” filter.

Tab “Fill” - Pic. 41. There are many options for the shape filling. We can’t even describe half of them in this example. Just repeat the settings on the Pic.41, to obtain results from the Pic.41.

10. Insert the title using the “Text” filter. Move to the correct spot – the center of the just created background.

Pic. 42 – Inserting the text.

        11. Double click to edit the text. Type in the text and use the newly appeared menu to apply the settings. Exit the text editing mode (“Command + Enter”).

Repeat to type in “Sveta”.

Note: see more details on “Text” in the “Special aspects of some filters application”.

       12. The collage is done. The author deliberately didn’t put the names of students, hoping that the user can do it themselves.

Note: for the teachers’ names it’s better to place the text at an angle. Here’s a tip, use the “Collage Item With Transform”.
