Metadata editing

Important! Any change of metadata values, including adding and deletion, doesn't save changes on the computer's hard disc. To save changes press "Save file" button ("SaveAll").

       Metadata adding

To add metadata you should press the button located to the left of the group name. The following line will appear:

Press on a dropdown list. In the dropdown list choose the line with a needed metadata tag:

       Press "Add" button.

To cancel adding press "Cancel" button.

       Metadata deletion

To delete metadata you should press "х" button located to the right of the text field with a metadata tag value. The following line will appear:

Confirm deletion by pressing "Delete" button or cancel the action by pressing "Cancel" button.

        Metadata editing

The method of metadata editing depends on a metadata type.

        String and numerical metadata:

In the text field just enter a needed value.

        Date/Time:

Choose with the mouse a necessary value in the text field. For editing use the keyboard or buttons to the right of the text field.

       Arrays with a variable length:

For adding/deletion press the arrow to the right of the dropdown list.

Adding – press "Add". In the text field of a not-dropdown list enter a necessary value.

Deletion – press "Delete". In a dropdown list choose a line to be deleted.

Editing – in a dropdown list choose a necessary line, enter a necessary value. Editing is possible when "Add/Delete" buttons are visible and when they are invisible.

When moving the mouse pointer beyond the line limits "Add/Delete" buttons will fold automatically.

        Arrays with a fixed length:

As an example of such metadata type there can be used  ExifVersion, ComponentsConfiguration, GPSVersion, JFIFVersion etc., i.e. such metadata, which editing is not desirable, though possible. In the given program version the author has taken the liberty of making them non-editable. Time will show whether this decision was right or not.

Dictionaries with a fixed value of the "key – object" pair:

Just click on a dropdown list, choose a needed value. Adding/deletion of values is impossible here.

Dictionaries with a fixed "key" value and a variable "object" value:

This is the most rare type of metadata. The author is aware of only one metadata of such type that is "Creator contact info".

In the dropdown list choose a needed field. Enter a needed value. A key value will be displayed on the left.

Adding/deletion of values is impossible here as well.

          Work with map

Editing the "GPS" metadata group doesn't differ from editing the other groups.  However, the program provides the capability of editing of four values of this group ("Latitude", "LatitudeRef", "Longitude", "LongitudeRef") directly with the help of the map:

For this press "Map" button on the tool bar or choose "Window-> Map" in the main menu. Direct the mouse pointer to a needed point on the map and make a double click. The current status indicator ("pin") will change its position.

If the GPS metadata group is not added to the image file metadata, then a confirmation window will appear:

Press "Add" for adding or "No" for cancel.

If "Add" is chosen or the "GPS" metadata group has been already added to the image file metadata, then updated data will appear in the metadata window.

For editing the "GPS" metadata group values for several files at once it is recommended to use the button located in the upper left side of the map window. In the result the computer screen will be divided into two parts:

        Notes:

        - As it was said at the beginning,  "Metadata Editor" doesn't use geoposition data of the program's user;

        - "Map" button on the tool bar and "Window ->Map" item in the main menu are not active if an appropriate line has not been chosen in the file window;

        - In case if the "GPS" metadata group is not added to the metadata of a chosen line of the file window, the current status indicator ("pin") will be set with the coordinates {0,0}:
